It is the legal responsibility of every parent to make sure their child regularly attends the school that they are registered at. This means that their child must attend every day that school is open, except in a small number of allowable circumstances such as being too ill to attend or being given premission for an absence in advance from school.
What you need to do if your child needs to be absent
Please telephone the school on 01845 577206 before 8.45am each day of your child’s absence. Leave a message if there is no-one available to speak to you. Alternatively, you can email admin@dishforth.n-yorks.sch.uk
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What we will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
Leave of Absence in Term time
From September 2013 new government regulation no longer allows schools to authorise leave of absence except in “exceptional circumstances”. We will therefore not able to authorise holidays during term time.
If you need to take your son/daughter out of school, in exceptional circumstances, please make a request to school using this form to outline the reason.
