Our school is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School.
Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Churches at parish and diocesan level. The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.
We are part of the Diocese of York and work actively with our Link Adviser. We are part of the Parish of Baldersby with Dishforth and have two active Foundation governors who regularly visit school and support our distinctiveness as Church of England School.
The school meets daily for collective worship, which, as the Education Act states, ‘is wholly or mainly of a broad Christian character, the main emphasis being on the broad traditions of Christian belief.”
Collective worship is an important part of our school day and reflects Anglican beliefs, practices and values in accordance with the requirements of the Trust Deed. Worship themes are planned to help children experience awe and wonder, to promote willingness to reflect on their own experiences and those of others and to learn about the life and teachings of Jesus.
