Compassion Collective Worship
In the second half of the autumn term our Collective Worship theme was Compassion and it was the turn of Class 2 to lead a sharing assembly for parents, grandparents and friends.
They decided to focus on how we can show compassion towards people who are lonely, especially at Christmas. Miss Campey contacted Age Uk and arranged for Catherine Green to come and talk to the children abut the work of Age Uk and how the class might be able to support. First, the children decided that they would make Christmas cards which Catherine would distribute to elderly people who might be alone. They then decided to hold a Community Coffee morning to raise funds for Age Uk and set about planning the whole event themselves! It was a fantastic team effort, from making the invitations, to baking cakes, setting the tables, welcoming guests and finally, preparing a very thought provoking sharing worship to which parents and grandparents were invited.
The Community Coffee morning was a huge success, raising a huge £114 which was donated to Age Uk in Ripon. We are very grateful to family and friends who donated such fabulous cakes and to all the people who supported the event on the day (our school hall was so full...)
Class 2 concluded the week with a beautiful Collective Worship in which they shared their work on Compassion, including the prayers which they had written. Do take a look at their presentation for their Collective Worship. The backing track is an extract of a recording of the children singing as part of their worship - My Prayer Tonight. The song, which has become a firm favourite in our whole school Collective Worship, is courtesy of Imaginor Resources.
